Christmas Memories ... in April?

I was browsing through some pictures while reminiscing about our trip to New York. Here are some pictures Hubby took while we had dinner and desserts at Serendipity in New York City. It was autumn and just a month away from Christmas.

Serendipity is a famous dessert place in NYC. Serendipity is actually a small shop selling antiques and other kitschy stuff. The restaurant is quite intimate but full of character, decor wise.

Serendipity is famous for its Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. Yes, it's spelled that way :-).

Frrrozen Hot Chocolate a simple sweet chocolate cold drink really. Here's Serendipity's best kept secret recipe (well, not for long!). I found it at epicurious.com:

Ingredients:
6 half-ounce pieces of a variety of your favorite chocolates (the secret is getting the chocolates that you really love)
2 teaspoons storebought hot chocolate mix (darn, instant?!)
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
3 cups ice
Whipped cream
Chocolate shavings

Procedure:
Chop the chocolate into small pieces and place it in the top of a double boiler over simmering water, stirring occasionally until melted. Add the cocoa and sugar, stirring constantly until thoroughly blended.

Remove from heat and slowly add 1/2 cup of the milk and stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature.

In a blender place the remaining cup of milk, the room temperature chocolate mixture, and the ice. Blend on high speed until smooth and the consistency of a frozen daiquiri.

Pour into a giant goblet and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Enjoy with a spoon or a straw. . . .or both!

I prefer to enjoy it with someone I love, just like in the movies :-)
