Amalia's in BF Homes

After our lunch and merienda at LP, the family had dinner at Amalia's, a Spanish restaurant located right along Aguirre Avenue in BF Homes.

For starters we had the Chorizo Bilbao. (Sorry, no photo)

Oysters in White Wine.

Vegetarian Paella, they used Jasmine Rice instead of Arborio rice for this one which is a bit unusual. The white asparagus was nice though.

Paella Espanola, with chicken, chorizo and seafood.

Salpicao, tenderloin beef cooked with lots of garlic (maybe they forgot to add garlic here?)

Callos or tripe stewed in tomatoes, garbanzos and red wine. This used to be my favorite at Amalia's (aside from the paella Espanola) but somehow the recipe is not the same tonight.

The kids had chicken lollipop which they finished off in fifteeen minutes flat.

For dessert, we had the Canonigo, a light fluffy eggwhite cake with a creamy sauce and a side serving of diced mangoes. This is one of my favorite desserts.

We noticed that Amalia's food is a bit lackluster today. I wonder if that's why only a few people (aside from us) dined there tonight.

A Newly Refurbished Conti's

Hubby dragged me again to have lunch out last weekend. He wants me to "relax" from the endless things that needed to be done at home. Such a sweetheart. (Actually, he may just be craving for some baked goodies, he he he)

We were surprised that the whole place was refurbished so fast. We just dined there a few weeks ago! The interiors are yellow and green, like their packaging :-) The place now is more spacious without the fountain (that's why there are posts in the middle, that's where the fountain/mini waterfall used to be) and the huge refrigerated display. The chairs are even more comfy and most of all they added some new selection on the menu, which hubby and I will try in due time.

Hubby's a creature of habit and not very adventurous when it comes to food choices. He ordered Caesar's Salad and his favorite Beef Salpicao with Paella Rice. He always orders these when we dine there. The salpicao is good. Maybe that's why he often orders it.

I has the Tanigue Fish Skewers. This is a new item on their menu. It was good and succulent, tender, juicy and not "malansa". The dish is served with macaroni salad and garlic fried rice. I shared this with hubby. He seemed to like it too. I love grilled peppers, I even ate the onions :-)

For dessert, we ordered the Mango Tart. A super favorite for both hubby and myself. Unahan kami sa crust!

Hubby also tried the Bananalicious. It's a pie made with bananas, cream, caramel, nuts and more whipped cream on top. The banana essence is a bit strong though and a bit "nakakasawa". Best shared.

I like dining at Conti's the head waiter always gives us excellent service.

I knew hubby was up to something when he asked to be excused. He came back with a bag of goodies of chicken pies and chocolate chip brownies. I knew getting me to "relax" was just a ploy to buy the chicken pies.....

Conti's

There's a restaurant in BF that we consider as the old standby whenever we need eat something homey, delicious and reasonably priced. Conti's has been in BF for as long as I remember. They are famous for their desserts and asado roll, which my mom used to line up for (when she still lived in BF). My mom would go there very early in the morning and line up.

Hubby and I go there for their delicious food and reasonable prices. The head waiter already knows us so we always get good service. It's been a while since we dined there.

We tried the Symphony Salad which is a new entry on their menu. It's basically salad greens with slivered almonds, tomatoes in a sweet and tangy tomato dressing. The dressing is similar to Pancake house's Taco Salad.

My favorite is the Grilled Pork Chop with Mushroom Risotto. I love their mushroom gravy and the risotto. A true blue risotto, I learned, spread around the plate when you give it a little jiggle. Technically, Conti's risotto is not really risotto but a creamy rice dish since it does not resemble a "lugaw-like" consistency when you give it a little jiggle. But I love it anyway. There was a time when I ate this at least once a week :-)

Hubby likes the Beef Salpicao. He said that their recipe improved since the last time he had it.

Our super duper favorite dessert there is the Frozen Mango Tart. Sweet pie crust with mango cream and fresh mangoes on top. Yummy!
